Why the series matters

Current and legacy, and why it changes the repair

Knowing your series isn't trivia — it shapes the whole diagnosis. The current lines run modern electronic controls and integrated, panel-ready installs; the legacy built-ins are mechanically simpler but decades old, where parts availability and the age of the sealed system become real factors. A model number tells us which playbook to open before we ever arrive.

The current Classic Series is the direct successor to the legacy BI built-ins and shares its core architecture, so the knowledge carries across the generations. Below, the series are grouped into the current lineup and the legacy cabinets that are the bread and butter of out-of-warranty repair.

To find your series, check the model number — usually on a label inside the cabinet, often on the upper interior wall or behind the grille. The prefix tells the story: CL is a current Classic, BI a legacy built-in, a plain three-digit number in the 600s or 700s a legacy built-in of that generation, DEC or DET a Designer column or drawer, and so on. Each series page below explains how to read its model numbers and what tends to fail on it. If you can't find the number, the symptom guides are another good place to start.

Tell us the model and what it's doing.
